Musical Advent – Day 2

Hello and good day, or evening I suppose (note the mock fumbling of greetings, to humanize myself to you the readers), to all you sweet cakes who’ve stopped by (note the pastry inspired endearment in hopes of you the reader continuing to visit my site in the future)! As you can see today is the second day in the musical advent and thus another step in the pilgrimage (note use of collective journeying terminology to provide sense of community and adventure to you the reader) towards finding christmas music that we can all stomach.

Today’s pick is performed by two lovely ladies that have gained a lot of popularity in the last few years with beautiful voices and often simplistic but heartwarming songs of relationships and finding yourself. I give you “Winter Song” by Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson!

I’m sure you remember Sara Bareilles’s radio hit “Love Song” a few years ago and her more recent “King Of Anything” that, in my honest opinion, aren’t all to special even though I do appreciate her sass. Those both are cute little jingles for sure but it seems that her radio hits tend to put her more in the category with Colbie Caillat when if you actually listen to her albums you’d probably tend to compare her with someone like Regina Spektor.

And co-leading the song is the slightly less radio infamous but no less talented Ingrid Michaelson. Like I said, this NY born dolly may not be all over the radio but I’m sure you’ve heard her songs on various soundtracks and/or TV shows lately.

What I love about this song is the token instrumental simplicity that I’ve always thought each one pulled off well, as well as the killer harmonies. Michaelson & Bareilles’s voices go incredibly well together and the song as a whole, while it may not be strictly Christmas, convey’s a lovely holiday vibe.
