Musical Advent – Day 10

Today’s musical advent pick of the day is U2’s 2008 cover of Greg Lake’s I Believe In Father Christmas. If you’re not a U2 fan then better luck tomorrow, as for me I think my love of them requires no apologies or explanations.

Lyrically it’s starts as a bit of a downer but like most Christmas songs ends on a hopeful note. And to be honest I wasn’t sure about the song based on the title simply because I don’t care for songs that take the focus off of Jesus, but for some reason I connect with the feeling with feeling like “they sold me Christmas, they sold me a silent night”. In line with U2’s usual humanitarian focus this song was done to benefit Product(RED) and the fight against aids in Africa

I also love the way the video was shot… nothing too flashy or overdone but good angles and the flickering lights on the ground and the spotlights behind them are a nice touch. Enjoy!

I wish you a hopeful Christmas
I wish you a brave New Year…
